Start of the Journey

Your transfer begins the moment you meet your driver at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). From there, your 33-mile journey is straightforward and scenic. We’ll head east on I-80 before connecting to I-215 South, which skirts the edge of the Salt Lake Valley. The drive offers open views of the towering Wasatch Front as you approach the mountains.

The Final Ascent

The final leg of the trip is the most dramatic: the ascent up UT-210, also known as Little Cottonwood Canyon Road. This famous two-lane highway winds its way up one of the snowiest canyons in the world. In just a few miles, you’ll be surrounded by steep granite walls and the deep snowpack Alta is known for. The drive typically takes between 45 and 55 minutes, but winter storms, traffic, or avalanche control can increase travel time.

Travel Assurance

With Rocks2Rocks, you can relax knowing your driver is prepared for any conditions.

Salt Lake City (SLC) – Alta

The road up Little Cottonwood Canyon (UT-210) is steep and frequently impacted by heavy snowfall. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) often enforces traction laws, requiring all vehicles to have 4WD/AWD or snow chains. The road can also temporarily close for avalanche control. Booking a professional transfer service like Rocks2Rocks eliminates this stress, as our vehicles are properly equipped and our drivers are experienced with these challenging conditions.

Alta is one of the three remaining skiers-only resorts in the United States. Snowboarders are not permitted to use the lifts or slopes. However, the neighboring resort of Snowbird (just one mile down the canyon) welcomes both skiers and snowboarders. We offer transfers to both resorts.

Our vehicles have generous storage, but space is finite. We generally accommodate one large suitcase, one carry-on, and one ski or snowboard bag per person. If you have excess or oversized luggage, please notify us when booking your transport so we can ensure the appropriate vehicle is assigned for a comfortable fit.

Yes, safety is our priority. We provide child and infant car seats upon request. Please specify the type and number of seats you’ll need during the booking process to ensure they are installed and ready for your arrival.

Renting a car means worrying about having a 4WD or AWD vehicle, navigating potentially icy canyon roads, finding parking at a crowded resort, and driving after a long day of skiing. Our service offers a hassle-free experience. We handle the driving, the vehicle prep, and the logistics, so you can simply enjoy the ride.

Booking is easy. You can get an instant quote and reserve your transfer directly on our website. Simply enter your flight details, group size, and destination. All payments are processed securely online. You will receive a confirmation email with all your trip details and instructions for meeting your driver at SLC.
