History

The mountain officially opened on December 14, 1946, with the inauguration of Lift 1. At the time, it was the longest chairlift in the world, a marvel of engineering that put Aspen on the global ski map. From its early days as a silver mining boomtown to its rebirth as a world-renowned cultural and recreational hub, Aspen’s story is written on these slopes. The mountain has hosted numerous World Cup races and continues to be a benchmark for serious skiers.

The experience here is defined by long, sustained pitches. Take the Silver Queen Gondola from town straight to the summit in just 14 minutes and explore a network of 76 trails. You’ll find legendary mogul runs under the Ajax Express lift, perfectly groomed blue cruisers like Spar Gulch, and the famed glades of The Dumps.
